Mycenae emerges from the mists of time, a legendary kingdom immortalized in the poems of Homer. Yet its ancient paths can still be walked today, leading past royal tombs that have stood for more than 3,400 years and up to the Megaron, where ancient rulers and warriors once gathered, overlooking the rolling hills of Argos.
Pass through the iconic Lion Gate and step inside the ancient citadel, enclosed by its imposing Cyclopean Walls. From here, the secrets of Mycenae begin to unfold. How far into its fascinating history you choose to venture is up to you.
The powerful city of Mycenae was the heart of the Mycenaean civilization that dominated Ancient Greece between 1600BC and 1100BC. Said to have been founded by Perseus himself, Mycenae was the center of many Greek myths and legends. One of them is the mythical beings Cyclopes - the one-eyed giants - brought by Perseus from Asia to construct the large fortified walls.
