Mycenae | Inside the Cyclopean Walls
Mycenae comes to us out of the mists of time. It's featured in the poems of Homer, yet you can still walk its ancient paths, stand by the graves of kings from over 3400 years ago and gaze over the rolling hills of Argos from the megaron, where ancient warriors once gathered. Once you pass the famous Lion Gate, the ancient citadel surrounded by the Cyclopean Walls starts unfolding. Then, it is up to you how deep in the history you will let yourself be immersed!
What you'll do
The powerful city of Mycenae was the heart of the Mycenaean civilisation that dominated Ancient Greece between 1600BC and 1100BC. Said to have been founded by Perseus himself, Mycenae was the center of many Greek myths and legends. One of them is the mythical beings Cyclopes - the one-eyed giants - brought by Perseus from Asia to construct the large fortified walls.
Split into teams of 4-6 people, each equipped with a tablet or smartphone. Navigate to the designated spots on the digital map and solve the riddles that appear on the screen. Correct answers will allow you to collect contemporary letters corresponding to the Linear B alphabet, the script in which the story of Cyclops is written.
Which team will be the first to reach the finishing point? Which team will be the first to decipher the script? Let’s find out…
For an enhanced experience, we can arrange for guide-archaeologists to accompany you and make your tour inside the walls truly unforgettable (available at an extra cost).
