Whole Brain® Motivation

Motivation isn’t one-size-fits-all, but everyone can be motivated.
This workshop blends Whole Brain® Thinking with powerful motivation frameworks to help individuals and leaders understand what truly energizes people. It goes beyond buzzwords to explore the intersection of thinking preferences, psychological needs, and motivational drivers.
Why
Because motivation fuels performance, but not everyone is wired the same way.
By understanding how different thinkers are activated by different drivers - whether it’s purpose, precision, people, or possibilities, leaders can:
- Build stronger engagement
- Reduce miscommunication around tasks and expectations
- Create a motivating climate even during change or pressure
- Tailor recognition and feedback more effectively
- Turn “going through the motions” into energy, ownership, and flow
What
This workshop explores key areas of motivation through a Whole Brain® lens:
- How Thinking Preferences Shape Motivation: Each quadrant is energized differently. Knowing this helps avoid one-size-fits-all approaches and design wholistic approaches to motivating people.
- Motivation Models in Action: Apply Pink, Herzberg, and Maslow frameworks through the lens of cognitive preferences and workplace application
- Designing Real-World Motivation Strategies: Create role-based or team-based motivational maps using quadrant tools and guided reflection
How
This learning experience uses assessments, real-world scenarios, and design thinking to help participants:
- Map their personal motivators to their Whole Brain® profile (optional)
- Identify how others’ motivations differ based on quadrant preferences
- Understand the psychological foundations of motivation (intrinsic vs. extrinsic)
- Use Pink’s Autonomy-Mastery-Purpose framework to analyze and reframe tasks
- Apply Herzberg’s motivators and hygiene factors through a Whole Brain® lens
- Design team-specific motivation strategies that reflect diverse needs
Note: The HBDI® assessment and personal profile debrief are optional for this workshop. They significantly enhance self-awareness and application and are strongly recommended, especially when this session is part of a broader learning journey or team development plan.
This workshop is designed as a compact 4-hour session. An extended 6-hour format is available for deeper exploration, live case work, or integration into broader development programs. Includes group discussion, visual thinking tools, motivation mapping, and customized action planning.
Who
This program is ideal for:
- Team leaders, managers, and project leads
- HR professionals and employee experience designers
- Anyone seeking deeper insight into their own motivation drivers
- Whole Brain® practitioners looking to add value beyond profiles
No prior exposure to motivational theory is required. Participants who have completed “WB – Start Thinking” will find added clarity and fluency.
